要旨
This year marks the centennial of Einstein’s theory of gravity, general relativity. The general relativistic deflection of light due to the curvature of spacetime, also known as gravitational lensing, provides an important tool in astronomy for the detection of dark matter, which remains one of the great mysteries of current astrophysics. In the first part of this talk, I will summarize the historical development of gravitational lensing theory and describe how its observational discovery provided an early corroboration of general relativity. In the second part, I will give a basic introduction to the theory itself and will focus on topological properties of lensed images. In particular, I will show how a fundamental result, the odd number theorem, can be understood in a simple, intuitive way. Finally, I will outline my own theoretical and observational research in this field, as well as the purpose of my Hakubi proposal.
