Known knowns, Known unknowns, and Unknown unknowns
If you were suddenly asked to estimate the size of the Earth, what would you do? Starting from such a simple question, let us return to the basics of science, where measurements can provide us with new discoveries of our Universe. Modern astronomical observations are full of serendipitous surprises, or “unknown unknowns”. Along with some information on my own personal experience as a fledgling astronomer, I will introduce my Hakubi project focusing on the mysteries of strange hidden stars, magnetized neutron stars (magnetars). Later at this seminar, we will invite Takayuki Muranushi (Hakubi 1st batch, OB, astrophysics & computer science) and have a discussion with him.
Before this seminar, Itaru Imayoshi (Hakubi 2th batch) will also provide us with a short presentation on his studies abroad.
