"Aliens" and high energy astrophysics
In 1967, Susan Jocelyn Bell, a PhD student in the Cambridge University, discovered a strange signal in the radio telescope data. It was considered as a signal from extraterrestrial intelligence. The Nobel prize was awarded for this greatest discovery in 1974. As of now, about 2000 "alien stars" are known. They are all small in size, only 10 km in radius, but are heavier than the Sun. On their surface, materialization from vacuum is happening. The purpose for observing these special stars is not to communicate with aliens, but to answer the question why the Universe is filled with high energy particles. I will introduce the current status of "alien star" observations together with the recent results and future projects.
