The effect of spawning site selection by female from the viewpoint of Ethology (Animal behaviour), and application to controlling invader animals
Every single animal, from giant like whale to smaller like fruit fly, has its own way of life. Ethology (Animal behaviour) is a science field to understand the meaning of individual’s behaviour and why this behaviour has been evolved. In this seminar, at first, I will introduce about ethology, following some interesting behaviour of animals. Next, I will talk about my research on spawning site selection behaviour by female frogs inhabiting coastal areas and how they avoid high salinity to lay eggs (because salinity is mortality risk for frog eggs). I will show the behaviour of embryo (hatching behaviour) within egg capsule in response to salinity risk. I also will discuss that the behaviour of individuals may influence the ranges of habitat for each species. Finally, I will explain about my Hakubi project plan, new controlling method of invader animals from the viewpoint of Ethology.
