Blowin’ in the Black Hole Wind
Supermassive black holes exist at the centre of galaxies. Their surroundings are often very bright, whose luminosity can exceed the one of galaxies whereas the size is much smaller. Gas around the black hole falls onto the black hole due to its strong gravity, but recent X-ray observations have shown that some gas blows away toward outside, against the gravity. This blowing “wind” is very fast, up to 100,000 km/s, and is called as an "UltraFast Outflow" (UFO, of course not an Unidentified Flying Object). In this seminar I overview the current black hole observation and talk about my recent studies on this mysterious phenomenon.
