"Understanding the evolution of minerals on airless small bodies."
Asteroids are small airless bodies dispersed throughout our solar system. They are remnants of building blocks of planets and provide information for the early evolution of the solar system. The surface color and chemical composition of asteroids are gradually changing with time. These processes make it difficult to speculate the components of asteroids from telescopic observation. I have studied space-exposed minerals in soil samples recovered by asteroids and the Moon to understand the surface alteration of asteroids. In this seminar, I will introduce the basic knowledge of extraterrestrial materials and unique crystal growth under the space environment.
