Research Interests: Historical Linguistics
Research Topic: Kitanology: a new research paradigm for the language, history and culture of Kitan
Yasunori has been interested in the study of undeciphered script since he was a high school student. At university, he took a course on the study of Kitan script, which was used from the 10th to 12th century in East Asia, and has continued to research this topic ever since. The Kitan language is generally an undeciphered language; sources are written in the Kitan scripts or phonetically annotated in Chinese characters in Chinese documents. Yasunori’s overall research objective has been to reconstruct the Kitan Language from the point of historical linguistics in order to clarify what kind of language is Kitan. In the Hakubi project, Yasunori intends to create a database of research resources on language, history and culture of Kitan, through which he hopes to enhance the understanding of Kitan script.
