● Hidetsugu KOMEDA Associate Professor
Research Interests:
Cognitive Psychology
Research Topic:
Psychological Mechanisms of Emotion Processing in Autism
Short Introduction
Hidetsugu wanted to study language because he has been interested in reading stories since childhood. He started studying cognitive psychology after he discovered during his undergraduate studies that his interest lay in the human being using language rather than the language itself. In the Hakubi Project, he will explore emotional mechanisms in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) based on story materials. ASD is a developmental disorder, which is characterized by social communication difficulties and limited interests. Previous studies suggest that it is difficult for individuals with ASD to empathize with other people. However, Hidetsugu believes that individuals with ASD empathize toward other people with ASD. He will develop evidence-based social support programs for individuals with ASD based on findings in psychological mechanisms of emotion and empathy in ASD.
