Research Interests: Theoretical Particle Physics
Research Topic: String Theory and Physics of Black Holes
In his boyhood, Masaki wanted to become a carpenter, an astronomer, a computer programmer, and then a physicist. After obtaining his master’s degree in condensed matter physics in Japan, he decided to switch to theoretical particle physics and went abroad to obtain a PhD studying string theory. String theory is a hypothetical theory in particle physics which assumes that the elementary particles in this world are made of tiny vibrating strings. It is believed that string theory can unify gravity and quantum mechanics, a dream even Einstein could not realize. Masaki wants to study the physics of string theory in extreme situations such as black holes in order to better understand the theory and elucidate what spacetime is. At present, his dream after retirement as a physicist is to go to Silicon Valley and become an entrepreneur.
