Summary

Plague locusts destroy agricultural crops and is one of the main causes of food shortage. Locust outbreak is considered a natural disaster all over the world. Despite our continuous efforts against locust outbreaks, the problem still persists. Although locusts are one of the most destructive pests, their ecology is largely unknown. Therefore, effective and safe control systems have not been developed. I have been studying locusts in Mauritania which is one of the major breeding areas of the desert locusts. Here, I will introduce mysterious characteristics of locusts and how to control locust in affected countries.
