Summary
I will provide a brief introduction to the standard model of elementary particle physics and string theory. I will avoid the detail and provide you with a graphical understanding of the theory. I will also introduce the notion of ‘gauge theory’, which is the key to understanding why the existence of the Higgs boson was predicted more than 40 years ago. Then I will introduce the deep connection between string theory and gauge theory.
