Summary

I will talk about the early stage of the Universe based on ideas of elementary particle physics such as symmetry, spontaneous symmetry breaking and unification. Symmetry, which is often viewed as a kind of beauty, is the most powerful idea in modern particle physics. Fundamental laws of the universe are governed by symmetries. Equally powerful is the idea of spontaneous symmetry breaking. If nature does not preserve whole symmetries of the laws, then the physicist says that the symmetry is spontaneously broken. Higgs particle is a key ingredient for the spontaneous symmetry breaking. I would like to mention recent discovery of the Higgs particle at CERN and consequences of the discovery.
