Summary
Although we usually feel that we perceive the outer world as it is, our perception is distorted in various ways and is not identical with the physical world. Despite the fact, why and how can we behave in the distorted world without problems? Recent studies in the field of psychology and cognitive science started to demonstrate that our think and action that we believe to produce consciously are in fact heavily dependent on unconscious aspect of cognitive processes in the brain. My research goal is to understand the mechanisms of the hidden implicit cognitive processes that govern our behavior and decision making. My current interests are somehow diverse; the mechanisms of visual attention, implicit memory and learning, interpersonal impression formation, implicit preference, and unconscious thought. I would like to review my research findings so far and to show the research plan on the mechanisms of high-level implicit cognitive processes, such as creativity and intuition.
