Summary
In the ancient universe just after the Big Bang, the world consisted of only hydrogen and helium. This is completely different from the current universe, where we are now living with a great variety of elements. In order to understand this drastic transition (or the “chemical evolution” of the universe), observational studies on properties of distant galaxies (i.e., galaxies in the ancient universe) have been performed. In this Hakubi seminar, I would like to report our recent studies on this research field, together with a general overview of how observational astronomy is carried out.
