Summary

As described in Voyage au centre de la terre by Jules Verne, the deep interior of the Earth has been of great interest for humankind. However, there are great challenges to understanding the structure and dynamics of the deep Earth due to the extreme conditions present there, i.e. ultra-high pressure and temperature. To meet these challenges, experimentalists from the high-pressure Earth science community reproduce such extreme conditions — up to 364 GPa and 5000 ℃ — that prevail at the center of the Earth, in a laboratory. In this presentation, I will review the current knowledge on this topic, and present the recent advances by our group; especially on the subject of the formation and evolution of the Earth.
