Summary
Abhayākaragupta(around 11-12th C. E.) who was one of the last abbots Nālanda and Vikramaśīla Monastery, had transferred their “Fruit of Intellect” collected over hundreds of years in India to the “Country of Snow(Himālaya)” before the fall of Indian Buddhism(the destruction of Vikramaśīla, A. D. 1193). Abhayākara wrote his “Trilogy” on the Maṇḍala Rituals (“Three Ranges”) and Two Commentaries on the Tantric Scriptures. He compiled a lot of Instruction and Theories in Indian Buddhism into these manuals and commentaries. Furthermore, he had translated over one hundred works including his works from Sanskrit into Tibetan. Among Works of Abhayākaragupta, I will focus on Āmnāyamañjarī(The Cluster of Instruction); the Encyclopedic Commentary on Sampuṭatantra, based on the New-found Sanskrit-Tibetan Bilingual Codex in Hakubi project. In this seminar, I will give you a perspective of the structure of manuals and commentaries in Indian Tantric Literature. After that, I would like to discuss about my recent research collaborating with the ITLR(Indo-Tibetan Lexical Resource) Project in Hamburg University.
