Summary
Ever since Darwin, evolution has been regarded as a slow process. However, recent studies revealed that adaptive evolution can be rapid enough to affect contemporary ecological processes. Because ecological processes also affect adaptive evolution, there should be feedbacks between ecology and evolution. To understand the complex eco-evolutionary feedbacks, I constructed and analyzed mathematical models based on empirical studies of plankton and land snails. In this talk, I will introduce my theoretical studies on extinction and coevolution in predator-prey systems.
