Summary

Speaking of a “sword”, I think many ordinary Japanese would imagine a “Japanese sword” that a samurai used to have. Then, before the advent of the so-called “Japanese sword”, do you know what sort of sword existed in Japan?
In the sixth century of the Kofun period in Japan, “decorated swords” that were decorated with gold and silver greatly prevailed all over the country. What triggered the boom was the “swords” that were brought from the Korean Peninsula to Japan.
In this talk, I would like to share with you the interchange between Japan and Korea in the Kofun period for a clue to “swords” that were buried in tumuli. I will introduce a concrete approach aiming at the elucidation of actual situation of the interchange between Japan and Korea in old times, explaining how Archeologists actually do research on remains through the analysis of “swords in the Kofun period”.
