Summary

Have you ever thought of the reason why “AIUEO” or “ABC” is ordered so? In this seminar, I will first introduce various linguistically interesting examples nearby to demonstrate wonders of linguistics. Then, I will argue why the study of minority languages is more important than any other disciplines in linguistics, and also consider why languages die. Lastly, I will explain the two major principles of historical linguistics: the comparative method and the internal reconstruction. This seminar aims to introduce the endeavour of linguistics that lasts hundred years.
* Before Dr. Huziwara ‘s talk, Dr. Komeda (4th batch) will give a small talk on some impressions of his stay in London.
