Summary

The works of Marcel Proust (1871-1922), who is known as the author of À la recherche du temps perdu (1913-1927), began to be introduced to Japan in the 1920s and have been read widely since the 1930s until now. In this presentation, I will show his life and works, explore the history of the acceptance and research, especially in Japan, and examine the relation between the anti-Semitism in the French Third Republic and Proust’s aesthetics.
