Summary

We can see diverse microorganisms under the microscope. If we were in the microworld, what would our life be like? We would need to swim well in the fluid such as air and water for locomotion. In this seminar, I will talk about fundamental aspects of hydrodynamics of swimming microorganisms, and would like you to “experience” the swimming in the microworld that might not be intuitive. In the latter part, I will discuss recent studies on sperm swimming, the main subject of my Hakubi proposal, and also talk about my research life as a theorist in an interdisciplinary field.

Before this seminar, Hoso-san (Hakubi 5th batch) will give a brief talk on his wining the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.
