Summary

Language is a tool for communication, and it also reflects how humans group all things in the world. Using the methodology of descriptive linguistics, I have been working on Tibetan to write the rules of sound and grammar. In recent years, I have also focused on the pastoralism that characterizes the Tibeto-Himalayan region and have been describing its highly specific cultural system. In this seminar, I will show a documentary film, introduce a system for identifying yaks as an example, and discuss future research plans.
