I engage in research on South Korean contemporary history through the lens of memory. I analyze how contestations over the collective memory (historical consciousness) of division, war, and anti-communist dictatorship have evolved in democratic South Korean society. In my Hakubi Project, I aim to further develop my research on South Korean disputes over memory into a global history of the Cold War. Doing so, I hope to shed light on aspects easily overlooked in national history.
