Beyond Fermat’s Last Theorem

The famous Fermat’s Last Theorem was actually proved by solving the Shimura-Taniyama conjecture. The Langlands conjecture is a broad and powerful conjecture that includes the Shimura-Taniyama conjecture as a special case. Shimura varieties are (algebraic) geometric objects known to be important for the Langlands conjecture. In this talk, I will provide an overview of these topics, from their history to modern research, and then give a brief overview of my own research.
